Founder’s story: I am an historian by education, a storyteller by avocation and a social entrepreneur by trade. A number of years ago when I was working in Cambodia I came across Kampot Pepper – known as the best pepper in the world. I floated out of my chair when I tasted the ‘Best Pepper Ever’ for the first time. Pepper has always been my go to spice but to quote the late Anthony Bourdain on the ubiquitous lime and pepper sauce served millions of times a day in Cambodia: ‘Wow, that’s great”
I ended up moving to a small village, Phnom Voar, in the heart of the Kampot Pepper growing region and started bringing it back to Canada and friends and family kept asking for more. Eventually I was bringing back five and ten kilos at a time. I met the local farmers and discovered they needed market access and as a social entrepreneur I thought I could do something with such an amazing spice. So I held a fund raiser for my local foundation and the light went on – create a social purchasing platform and carve off the retail portion for agencies working to alleviate food insecurity.
